Power Armor

IMG_4664_edited.jpg

As my main project for the Summer of 2024, I worked on a Pneumatic Power Armor exo-skeleton, with an emphasis on Power Arms, that had the form and function of that of one from the Fallout Franchise. Two versions of the Arms were created, a Version One and Two, where the latter took learnings from the former.

Skills:

  • Preliminary Research for Development

  • Mechanism Design

  • Pneumatic System Design

  • 3D Printing

  • Sheet Metal Bending

Pneumatic Design

We used a Pneumatic System in this project due to its power, portability and versatility. It was used to raise the arm, close and lock the cuffs and inflate the fitting air-cuffs. Here, I learned how to design a Pneumatic system and how to utilize one system for a variety of uses.

3D Printing

To get the sheet metal exo-skeleton to look like the IP, was the main line of communication for our vendor, and the lead on testing, paining and fitting the figure.

Sheet Metal Manufacturing

This project was made out of sheet metal aluminum to save on weight. Through this design choice, I learned how to design for sheet metal and how to manufacture 3-Dimensional designs.

Posted YouTube Videos

Below are the videos wherein my work appears on the Power Armor Exo-skeleton. In the first video, I helped to develop both prototypes of the arm, and in the second video I prepared testing samples for the team to determine the best kevlar composite for the lightest and safest material.
