How It's Made: Power Armor
During my internship this summer, I worked on a team of three people to develop, design and test an pneumatic powered exo-skeleton that would grant it's wearer enhanced abilities. In this project, I learned about designing my own pneumatic systems and how to control them using programmable logic controllers.

Why It's Made

Fallout is a game franchise that was launched by Interplay Entertainment in 1997. Since it's release, the franchise has gained a cult following that grown and developed for decades. One of the most iconic parts of the game is an exo-skeleton that grants players enhanced abilities, like super strength, bullet resistance and increased endurance.
The Hacksmith, the Youtube Channel, has been getting request for years to recreate the game's most iconic suit. The request only increased with the recent release of series adaptation of the show in 2024. Comments upon comments asking Hacksmith Industries to create the unreal exosuit. Opponents of the idea argued it was too expensive, that it wasn't realistic enough. But, with dedication and optimism, the project was greenlit and we started at ground zero.

ground zero
The Hacksmith YouTube Channel was created in 2013, when the CEO, James Hobson, started to make engineering projects in his garage. One of the first projects that he had made was a pneumatic exoskeleton that used four pneumatic cylinders at 200 psi to move and lift objects.
